Project: Virtual Calm - Using VR Videos to Reduce Dementia Distress

Brief Abstract:

Pharmacological approaches to managing responsive behaviours in individuals with dementia have been found to have limited effectiveness and are associated with poorer quality of life. Advances in the affordability and portability of virtual reality (VR) may permit the use of this technology in the home as a non-pharmacological, distraction technique. The aim of this study was to explore the tolerance and acceptability of virtual reality technology at home as a possible strategy to manage responsive behaviors in individuals with dementia.
